New Work by Doug Turman

February 19 – March 27, 2010

Carrying on in the long tradition of artists traveling to distant lands and returning with an expanded vision painter Doug Turman continues to bring his unique and marvelous vision of Italy home to Helena. In October of 2009 he traveled to Italy for the 7th time. Each time he returns back to Helena he enters his studio renewed. “I want to explore how the feelings are connected to the mind in the discovery of fresh things in travel”.

The paintings may begin with a fairly simple photograph. Turman has taken thousands of pictures over the course of six years of visits. What has emerged most recently is a new series of oil paintings and watercolors whose imagery has been slowly percolating through Turman’s creative consciousness. They are a very personal expression of his own “Italian Journey”.

Destiny grants us our wishes, but in its own way, in order to give us something beyond our wishes. —Goethe
