Melissa Kwasny
Author of “The Nine Senses"

The author will read from her new book of poetry, The Nine Senses, just released from Milkweed Editions; a book signing will follow.

“In The Nine Senses, Melissa Kwasny follows the path of amor mundi beyond the ‘senses five,’ never parting the real from the dreamt, the dead from the living, the lost from the loved, the solitary from the communal. In a book of prose poems, she makes her turns internally. As with my favorite words, rooms, faces, and flowers, I feel that light is sewn up into them. Between their lines moves an ethics of embodied becoming, like the tree, ‘whole and shining,’ she gives us in the spaces of venetian blinds."
- Sarah Gridley

Melissa Kwasny is the author of four books of poetry: The Nine Senses, Reading Novalis in Montana (named one of the top ten books of 2009 by "The Huffington Post"), Thistle (winner of the Idaho Prize), and The Archival Birds. She is the editor of the anthology Toward the Open Field: Poets on the Art of Poetry 1800-1950, and is co-editor, with M.L. Smoker, of I Go to the Ruined Place: Contemporary Poems in Defense of Global Human Rights. Her poems have been published in many literary journals, including The Kenyon Review, Boston Review,"Three Penny Review, Ploughshares, and Willow Springs She is the recipient of a 2010 Montana Arts Council Artist's Innovation Award and the Alice Fay di Castognola Award from the Poetry Society of America.
